Modellen anvendes til at analysere og fortolke kommunikation, for eksempel reklamer, og er inddelt i fire faser, herunder (A) Attention (opmærksomhed), den tekst eller det billede, som fanger modtager, (I) Interest (interesse), den del, som fastholder modtager, (D) Desire (ønske), den del, der får modtager til at ønske sig at vedkommende ejede produktet, og (A) Action (handling), den del, der får modtager til at købe produktet.
